Automations

Let Daneshyar work on its own — for example answering questions in a Telegram or Bale group.

An automation is a job Daneshyar does without you pressing a button. Every automation has two parts: when it starts (for example, when someone asks in a group) and what it does (for example, answer from your files and post it in the group).

Workspace page → the Automations button at the top. On a phone it is inside the ⋯ menu. Only the workspace owner sees it.

Create an automation

The easiest way is to ask the chat. You do not have to set anything up by hand.

  1. 1

Tell the chat what you want

For example: “Whenever someone mentions the bot in our Telegram group, answer from this workspace's files.” Daneshyar builds the automation and tells you.

  2. 2

    Take a look

Open Automations → Workflow. You see the steps from top to bottom; press one to see or change its settings. Canvas shows the same steps in a bigger view.

  3. 3

    Save and turn it on

Press Save, then Turn on. To try it once, press Run now.

  • Every automation is in one of these states: Draft (not turned on yet), Active (working) or Paused (off for now). Press Pause to switch it off until you turn it on again.
  • A step shown in red has a problem. Fix it or delete it before turning the automation on.
  • If you change a manual or scheduled automation and save it, it goes back to Draft — remember to press Turn on again after saving.

When it starts and what it does

An automation can start like this:

  • By hand: only when you press Run now.
  • On a timer: at times you choose — for example every Saturday at 8 am.
  • A message in Telegram or Bale: when someone messages the bot privately, or mentions it in a group. This kind turns itself on as soon as you save it.
  • Started by other services: coming soon.
Scheduled automations do not yet run on time by themselves — that part is still being finished. Until then, you can run one by hand with Run now.

…and do these jobs:

  • Answer a question from the workspace's files.
  • Write a summary of the workspace's files.
  • Make a quiz (a few short questions) from the files — for example for revision.
  • Send a message to a group or chat in Telegram or Bale.
Example: a tutoring centre adds the bot to a class group. A student mentions the bot and asks “What is the difference between mitosis and meiosis?” A few seconds later, the answer from that class's handout appears in the group.

Connect Telegram or Bale

For Daneshyar to answer in your group, you first connect the group to it. Open Automations → Connections.

  1. 1

    Make a connection

Pick the Telegram or Bale tab, press Add and save.

  2. 2

Add the bot to your group and send the code

You are shown a short code. Add the Daneshyar bot to your group and send that code in the group. The Open the bot button takes you straight to the bot.

  3. 3

    Wait for “Connected”

When the bot sees the code, the connection shows Connected. If you lose the code, press New code.

  • To connect a different group, press Use another chat. The old group is disconnected and the automation turns off; turn it on again once the new group is connected.
  • Google Drive: you can connect your Google account, but Daneshyar does not read Drive files yet.
  • If you do not see the Bale tab, it has not been turned on for you yet.

See what it has done

Automations → Runs lists every time an automation has worked — like a logbook.

  • For each run you see when and how it started, how long it took and how it ended: Waiting, Running, Done or Failed.
  • Press a run to see its details. If it started from Telegram or Bale, you also see the Question and the Answer.
  • If a run failed, the reason is written right there. Fix the step, save, and try again.

Privacy and cost

An answer sent to Telegram or Bale leaves Daneshyar. These messengers are not covered by our privacy commitments. Do not put patient information, or any other confidential information, in a workspace that is connected to a messenger.

Every answer an automation writes uses a little of your credits, just like answers in the chat.
